THE INTERVIEW REHEARSAL

"I want the audience to feel the spirit of hope and understanding when they leave these events."

What I am discovering at the Royal Roots book events is that the stories I tell in the memoir resonate with the audience’s own sense of living their lives. It does not matter if they were not born in post WWII America as the subject matter can apply to everyone’s life. We all hope and dream. We all suffer losses. We all use humor to help us enjoy life and get through the hard times. 

I like what James Joyce said to his critics who said that it seemed odd that he only wrote about Dublin, Ireland. He answered this way: “In the particular rests the universal.”

Yes, these are my particular times in Royal Roots. But what the audiences are telling me is that their times co-exist with mine.
